Biofuel

Issues such as climate change and Global Warming are driving the development of and demand for biofuel. The difference between biofuel and fossil fuel is that biofuel is created from recently dead biological material and fossil fuel comes from long-dead biological material. Further, biofuel is renewable and fossil fuel is not - once it's gone it's gone.

But perhaps more influential in the popularity of biofuel, is the fact that biofuels offer the possibility of producing energy without a net increase of carbon into the atmosphere because the plants used to produce the fuel have removed CO2 from the atmosphere, unlike fossil fuels which return carbon (which was stored beneath the surface for millions of years) into the air.

RDF

Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) consists largely of organic and combustable components of C&D and MSW such as plastics and biodegradable waste. RDF processes typically begin with shredding MSW or C&D to finer sizes and separating non combustable and inert fraction. Many variations of the process have been developed, each of which has certain advantages. All can benefit from CBI's heavy-duty components such as the Annihilator slow speed primary shredders, screeners, conveyors, picking stations, magnetic separators, water tanks, and secondary and tertiary grinders to assure specific product size.

Mulch

Wood debris from construction and land-clearing, bark from sawmills and clean wood derived from construction is often recycled into mulch. It is produced by grinding material into a variety of different sizes for different applications. From coarse-grade material for erosion control, to finer mulch for commercial or residential (frequently colored for aesthetics).

Processing material such as stumps to make mulch requires an aggressive and rugged grinder with the precision to deliver the desired size end product. For that reason, CBI equipment has been the undisputed leader in this industry for the past decade and the industry’s top mulch manufactures turn to CBI again and again.

But, don't take our word for it …

"This is my 11th CBI Grinder and can I say, this 8600 with the Cat C-32 (1200-HP) has far exceeded my expectations.  I know where to look for my 12th machine."

"Unbelievable ... These CBI 8600's are "flippin" unbelievable. They primary grind Australian pine yard waste and construction wood, and they make a beatutiful mulch at a rate so high we had to buy a loader with a 27 yard bucket just to keep up. We love them ... Thanks CBI."

Pellets

Due to the rise in the cost of heating fuel, the popularity of wood pellet fuel is growing at a rapid pace. Traditionally, pellets were produced from sawdust (a sawmill waste product). However, with the rapid-growing pellet market and a declining sawmill industry, producers have turned to using logs. They, chip, grind, dry, pelletize and bag wood pellets – delivering a neat and easy-to-handle fuel for boilers and pellet stoves.

That’s why CBI developed a 4-Pocket Chipper Rotor that yields consistent 3mm - 6mm micro-wood chips at the rate of 50 – 100 tons per hour (depending on model). Several advantages are derived from this; 1) The hammermill power consumption is cut by 75%. 2) The capital investment of hammermills is drastically reduced. 3) The micro chips do not have to be ground before the dryer, allowing the product to be screened after the dryer resulting in a higher allowable bark content while still producing a premium pellet. CBI’s ability to deliver a portable or stationary chipping system that can incorporate a suitable debarker allows us to meet our customer’s exact needs.

ADC

ADC or Alternative Daily Cover made from grinding construction & demolition (C&D) waste has, in many areas, been an accepted alternative to valuable organic soils for daily covering of solid waste in landfills as required by State and Federal statute. Acceptable materials for making ADC include auto shredder fluff, construction and demolition (C&D) waste and ground green waste. All of this material comprising the ADC must be ground into a specified size (approximately 3 inch minus) in order for it to fill the voids of compacted trash – thereby serving as an odor and fire barrier.

ADC doesn’t represent the smartest use of a ground product that could be used as RDF but it is, nonetheless, a vast improvement in landfill management that replaces traditional burial of waste and use of large amounts of dirt.

CBI has a long proven history of successfully processing material in demanding applications that require the durability and aggressive processing found in machines like the Annihilator shredder and the Grizzly and Magnum Force grinders. The names alone imply the strength and force of these products.
